How to create a Father’s day they’ll always remember
Simple, heartfelt ideas to celebrate the dads (and dad-types) in your life
Father’s Day doesn’t have to mean last-minute socks, panic-buying barbecue tools, or novelty mugs.
Handmade Hippo is all about meaningful gestures, the ones that become memories, not landfill. Whether you’re planning something big, small, or somewhere in between, here’s how to create a Father’s Day that feels personal, thoughtful, and actually fun!
1. Let the kids take the lead
It doesn’t need to be fancy, it just needs to be theirs. Give your little ones the freedom to get creative with a Decorate Your Own Banner Kit or colouring sheets. Whether it’s a banner that says “Best Dad Ever” or a scribbly masterpiece of dad as a superhero with spaghetti arms, it’ll mean the world.
Want to make it extra special? Hang their creation up as a surprise on Father’s Day morning, next to his favourite spot on the sofa!
2. Make breakfast into a memory
Father’s Day breakfast doesn’t need to be Michelin-starred. It could be toast with way too much butter, some wildly cracked eggs (bits of shell included), or cereal served with enthusiasm and a side of glitter.
Dress it up by setting the table with a handmade banner, a personalised note tucked into a Keepsake Fabric Envelope, and a card signed with tiny fingerprints. Pop on some twinning aprons for extra “favourite parent” points, and enjoy the chaos together.
3. Bake, craft, or create together
The best gift is often time, and if yours loves to potter in the kitchen, get messy with crafts, or build a Lego tower taller than the toddler, make that your activity for the day.
My Twinning Apron Sets are perfect for family baking sessions — and yes, even dads deserve an apron that makes them feel like a kitchen hero. (Especially one with pockets.)
4. Give a keepsake he’ll actually keep
Mass-produced gifts are forgotten by Monday. But a handwritten note or hand-drawn card, tucked into a fabric envelope, or a custom fabric banner personalised with an inside joke, lyric, or heartfelt phrase? That’s something he’ll keep long after the day’s over.
Not sure what to write? Ask your child what they love most about Dad. The answers are always gold - and often hilarious.
5. Order handmade in time
If you’re looking for something one-of-a-kind this Father’s Day, now’s the time to order. Everything at Handmade Hippo is made in small batches and with care (by me, Emma, mum of two, lover of twinning fabric and heartfelt chaos).
The cut-off date for guaranteed Father’s Day delivery is 26th May 2025.
So whether you’re eyeing up a keepsake envelope, a banner, or something special from your little ones, now’s your moment.

At the end of the day, what dads (and dad-types) really want is to feel loved, appreciated, and noticed, even if the dog’s eaten part of the banner and someone’s drawn a moustache on the toast.
So keep it simple. Keep it real. And remember: the magic isn’t in the perfection. It’s in the memories!!
